About Us

A Scout-Led Troop

Linked Troop GraphicTroop 512 is a strong, youth-led linked troop of over 50 boys and girls between the ages of 11 to 17. The troop operates a year round program and conducts at least one outdoor activity each month, mainly campouts.

Our meetings are held every Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30PM at VFW Post 8315 in the Hall of Flags (the large metal building in the back) located at 1000 FM 78 Schertz, TX 78154.

 Exciting Program

Troop 512 operates year round program and participates in one outdoor activity each month, mainly campouts. The Scouts plan the campouts and the activities that will take place during the campout. In addition to camping, campout activities have included hiking, biking, backpacking, canoeing, rock wall climbing and rappelling, waterskiing, horseback riding, archery, rifle shooting, kayaking, and fishing.

The Troop maintains a full complement of camping gear, tents, and canoes for the Scouts. It is important to allow Scouts to learn teamwork and leadership skills within their patrols but parents are welcome to attend campouts or help out in ways that match their talents and time availability.  Parents must complete and maintain current BSA Youth Protection Training (YPT) to attend campouts.

Operation First Class

In the Scouting program youth are given the opportunity for advancement but can proceed at their own pace. The older scouts teach scouting skills. Once the skill is learned and demonstrated by the scout, the
higher-ranking scout signs it off. Troop 512 has created the Operation First Class program to provide all motivated new scouts the resources and support needed to progress through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class to First Class within 12 months of joining our troop.

High Adventure

For scouts that are 14 and older, the Troop conducts annual treks to Philmont Scout Ranch in northeast New Mexico, Sea Base in the Keys, Florida and Northern Tier in Minnesota and Canada. Earn the Triple Crown by attending all three high adventure camps.

A Heritage of Eagle Scouts

Less than 5 percent of youth that join scouting achieve its highest rank of Eagle Scout. Young men and women  who have made is accomplishment are widely recognized by employers and Colleges. Obtaining the Eagle Scout rank requires a strong personal commitment from the Scout, his parent, and his Troop. Although we cannot guarantee any scout will make Eagle, since our founding in 2006 Troop 512 has had more than 100 Eagle Scouts (5 times the national average).

Come Join Us

We bring the scouting experience to boys and girls between the ages of 11 to 17. Our meetings are held every Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30PM at VFW Post 8315 in the Hall of Flags (the large metal building in the back) located at 1000 FM 78 Schertz, TX 78154. We try to help each Scout reach their goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. More importantly, we try to help each Scout become a good citizen who cares about others. Scouting is a great experience; one that will help form abilities that he will use the rest of his life.
